How do I white out text in a PDF?
Open your PDF in peadf, drag a box over the text you want gone, and it is covered with a fill matched to the page. You can then type new text on top. Nothing is uploaded and the download is free.
Will the white-out box show as a grey or off-white rectangle?
No. peadf samples the colour of the page behind the box rather than always painting white, so the cover disappears into tinted, scanned or textured backgrounds instead of sitting on top of them as an obvious patch.
Is whiting out the same as redacting?
No, and the difference matters for anything confidential. Whiting out covers the content visually, but the original text can still be present underneath in the file. Use Redact when the content must actually be removed from the PDF, not just hidden.
Can I white out part of a scanned document?
Yes. Because the cover is drawn over the page rather than tied to real text, it works the same on a scan or a photo of a document as it does on a digital PDF.
Do I need Adobe Acrobat to white out a PDF?
No. peadf runs in your browser with nothing to install and no subscription. Acrobat has a comparable tool, but it is behind a paid plan and requires the desktop app.
